Hi, We’re Umble.

At Umble Studios, we genuinely love what we do - designing practical, beautiful, and environmentally-minded gardens & landscapes for good people.

We’re a small team of award-winning garden & landscape designers, based in the glorious outskirts of the North Yorkshire Dales, UK.

Founder, Principal Garden & Landscape Designer

Growing up, my dad was involved in our towns Britain in Bloom displays. He would take me with him to collect the colourful hanging baskets from the local nurseries - beautifully arranged displays that contained things I’d never seen before but remember liking. I’d help him hanging them up around the town, and we’d then drive around watering them until the season finished. I remember thinking how they changed the look of the place so dramatically - The sudden explosion of greenery, petals, form, and colour brightened everything up. Even at a young age, I could notice how the planting seemed to change the way people interacted with the each other as well, and how the planting changed the feeling of the streets and the businesses in them. It became obvious to me that plants had this amazing potential to alter people & places for the better.

Eventually I moved away, gaining top honours and Best in Show awards from a Fine Art degree at Manchester Met University, before going onto a successful career as a Product Manager at a Scientific Publisher based in Bristol, UK. It was here at the Bristol Botanic Gardens that I studied for my RHS accreditation, and decided to take the leap and career change to garden design.

Many years later, and after having come home to Yorkshire, I have been fortunate enough to work with some talented designers and landscape professionals, and to design and create some truly wonderful gardens across the Yorkshire area and beyond. In 2024, I won a Silver Gilt medal for a show garden I designed at RHS Tatton Park Flower Show, and then a Gold Medal for a Xeriscape garden design at RHS Wentworth Woodhouse Flower Show in 2025. This garden also went on to win The Challenge Cup award at Harrogate Autumn Flower Show that year as well.

I have management experience of both smaller renovations, and large-scale garden and landscape builds. Being a problem solver, I also enjoy providing creative solutions for smaller gardens and phased garden spaces for longer-term projects.

I enjoy designing and creating gardens that alter people & places for the better, affecting a space positively with thoughtful interventions and elegant, structural, and seasonal planting that can be enjoyed year round.

Let’s Work Together.

If you like the look of what we do and would like to discuss your next project,

we’d love to hear from you!
