At Umble, we work a little bit differently.
Our approach to design is always site and client specific, with no two gardens or outdoor spaces being the same. We believe in thoughtful design, where the client and the environment sit at the heart of the process, not at the periphery. Our client-centred approach ensures we remain flexible throughout the design process to best meet your ongoing needs, whilst our commitment to repurposing or building upon what we can from a site, whether that be existing features, specimen plants, trees, and shrubs, or landscaping materials, helps to reduce waste and promotes sustainable practice. Our aim is to create beautiful, sculptural, and expressive outdoor spaces, underpinned by the core values of practicality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness in every design.

We work with you to create original ideas for your garden, whether they be modest interventions in key areas, or full-scale renovation plans. Our approach to every project is to make time to listen first, and then begin to get creative. We will come to your location, have a conversation about your needs and ideas, and then create detailed concept plans, 3D visuals, sketches, and curated mood boards.
Outdoor Structures & Crafted Features.
Bespoke Structural Elements & Difference Making Features
We help you to visualise what new structures or features might look like in your new garden, how they will integrate within the wider design, and what purpose they might serve. From pergolas, gates, and potting sheds, to benches, sculptures, and water features - We have a strong interest in traditional handcraft and natural materials here at Umble, and often look to enhance our designs with well crafted, artisanal items from skilled craftspeople and interesting makers.
Lighting Plans.
Full Illumination Plans to Make Your Garden Glow
Gardens transform and take on a different life as dusk falls, and lighting can play a vital part in setting that scene. We specialise in designing schemes that combine low-level passive lighting, with sculptural way marking, and feature highlighting to bring your garden to life across all seasons, and light levels. We are also mindful of our bird and insect friends during the design stage too, and always look to reduce light pollution and habitat disruption with careful planning.

With extensive experience and backgrounds in project management, we are able to work with your appointed contractors across multiple disciplines. From initial tendering to finished project, we manage the whole thing so you don’t have to, delivering a finished garden that is true to the original vision and not watered down by contractor interpretation.

With experience of specifying irrigation systems for all kinds of gardens and landscapes, and advising on water conservation strategies to minimise the need for watering at all, we are well placed to deliver an effective strategy for your site.
Furnishing & Finishing Touches.
Furniture & Special Finishing Touches to Bring the Space to Life
The finishing touches are the exciting part of most projects, where the built elements can be embellished with fine furnishings to make the space truly yours. We provide furnishing plans specifying some of the most interesting makers and materials around, with a particular focus on local makers, sustainable materials, and ethical production methods. We believe that real creativity comes in delivering well designed items that are both practical and beautiful, whilst not costing the earth.
